Sunday Best

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” -Jesus (John 10:10)

Waking up Sunday morning has turned into a routine. It’s just another part of our week. It isn’t the absolute essential part of our week. It is simply a time where we can catch up with friends, a time to forget about our problems for a little while, and a time to put on our Sunday Best. We’re complacent. We accept a life of mediocrity. What happened to abundant life? We read Jesus’ words, but we never really get it. What does an abundant life look like?

What did He have in mind when He created you uniquely and with a special purpose? When He thinks about you He gets excited. I hardly think the Creator of the Universe gets excited by mediocrity. He has to see something that we’re missing. There is something in you that sparkles, something in you bigger than you can possibly imagine. You are God’s prize. You are the one thing that He wants above all else.

Christianity isn’t about your Sunday Best. It isn’t about routine. It isn’t about your imperfections. It is about God’s perfection. It is about a God who loves you, who wants to spend every waking moment with you. It is about a life of abundance. How long are we going to be satisfied with average?

On this Easter, understand that Jesus didn’t die so that we could put on our Sunday Best. He didn’t come back to life for us to live out a dead Christianity. When He defeated death, He was excited about the abundant love-relationship that He can have with us now.

Don’t settle for mediocrity. Accept God’s calling and live a life of abundance.
